Tree Removal in Staunton & Augusta County
Dead, damaged, or too close to the house. When a tree has to come down, it comes down in a controlled way, with the things underneath it protected.

Sylvan Scapes removes trees across Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County, VA, including large hardwoods and technical removals close to houses and power lines. Every removal is assessed on site by an ISA Certified Arborist and quoted in writing, with stump grinding available on the same visit. Call 540-885-2199.
Removal done in a controlled way
Most of the trees we take down cannot simply be felled. There is a house, a fence, a septic field, a neighbor's driveway, or a power line in the way. Those trees get climbed or reached with a lift, taken apart in sections, and the pieces get rigged and lowered rather than dropped.
That is slower than felling, and it is the reason the job does not end with a repair bill. Before anyone leaves the ground, the rigging plan is set: where each piece goes, what it is tied to, and who is holding what.
Everything gets cleaned up. Brush chipped, wood cut to length and stacked or hauled off, ruts repaired, and the lawn raked before we leave.

Stump grinding & cleanup
A cut stump is a trip hazard, a mower obstacle, and an open invitation to carpenter ants and fungus. We grind stumps below grade so the area can be graded, seeded or replanted.
Grinding is usually quoted with the removal, which is cheaper than bringing a grinder back out as a separate trip. Root flare, stump diameter and access all affect the price, so it gets looked at during the same on-site visit.
- Ground below grade so the spot can be seeded or replanted
- Quoted with the removal, not as a second trip charge
- Grindings hauled or backfilled, your call
- Brush chipped into the truck, wood cut to length or hauled

Ask whether it has to come down at all
Because Sylvan Scapes is a certified arborist and not only a removal company, the assessment is honest in both directions. Plenty of trees quoted for removal elsewhere can be carried for decades with a cable and a pruning plan. See tree preservation.
How Sylvan Scapes runs a job
The same four steps on every job, from a single dead maple to a full property assessment.
The owner walks the property
Kevin Thompson looks at every tree in question from the ground up: species, structure, defects, and what sits underneath it. Not a salesperson, not a photo texted from the road.
Written estimate
A written scope within a few days. What comes down, what stays, and what it costs. No verbal numbers that change on job day.
The work, done to standard
Crews work inside ANSI Z133.1. The rigging plan is set before anyone leaves the ground, and records are kept on every job.
Site left clean
Brush chipped, wood cut to length or hauled, ruts repaired, lawn raked. The yard looks like we were never there, minus the tree.
